ORIGIN: Mesopotamian (Sumerian)

INFORMATION: Less frequently encountered in the texts than Nergal. Son of Enlil and Ninlil or, in alternative traditions, of Ereskigal and the farther of Ning-is-zida. The patron deity of Esnunna until superseded by Tispak. His sanctuaries ar the E-sikil and E-kurma. Also identified as a god of healing, he is (unlike Nergal) generally benevolent.
